EBU Statement on Events in Stockholm

The European Buddhist Union expresses its concern about the act of aggression in Stockholm when some pages of the Koran, a holy book for Muslim believers, were burnt in front of the largest mosque in the Swedish capital. The EBU's mission is to promote the values of non-violence, compassion and kindness and will always be on the side of all those who work so that dialogue, respect for every voice and peace may prevail.

This very serious act of aggression does not only affect our brothers and sisters of the Muslim faith but offends the religious sentiment of us all. The sacred texts are the expression of the deepest spirit of an entire community. To offend them is to fail to recognize the absolute value of all religious expression as well as an attack on democracy and fundamental human rights. Therefore, we wish to send our most sincere solidarity to Muslim communities around the world.
