Breaking Hopelessness: Young Voices, Big Change - Guest: Ioana Spataru
European Buddha Podcast Nr. 45

In this episode of the European Buddha Podcast, we speak with Ioana Spataru from Vienna about her journey. Growing up in a Christian Orthodox environment, Ioana eventually found her path to Buddhism.

Our conversation highlights the challenges of living in a time often described as "the worst of times" yet filled with immense potential for change. Ioana reflects on how young people today are drawn to Buddhism’s teachings and practices, seeking hope and a sense of purpose in a world that often feels disconnected.

Ioana emphasized the importance of “third places”—spaces beyond home (the first place) and work (the second place) that foster community, connection, and shared growth - being a foundation of non-violence, mutual understanding, and encouragement.

How can we build strong and sustainable connections among Buddhist Youth in Europe? Well, connection starts with communication. Communication about what we are all up to, and from that getting invested in projects together.
